Those of you who use flexwatt. I am just wondering what thickness of flexwatt you use for your hatchling racks?? 3 or 4"? I know it does not make much difference; however i am just wondering what everyone uses. I have some of both, but i think i am going to stick with one or the other for my upcoming rack.

Actually I use the 11".. but I have to use back heating because of the way the bins are

I have a 2 foot strip to cover the entire back area

I use 11" down the back of all my racks. To me this just made more sense and seems safer. Heat tape that is under the tubs kinda makes me nervous. If the thermostat goes and it gets to hot you could have issues. also the constant rubbing while sliding the drawers back and forth over it could make it wear over time...I know everyone including myself preaches belly heat, but the plastic tubs do heat up from the heat tape behind it. This is all I have ever used with GREAT results...:main_thumbsup: :main_thumbsup:

I'm using 11" on the back of my hatchling rack. I figure that even the 3" tape is too wide for a small 6 quart tub. I wonder about getting any kind of temeprature gradient on a small tub like that. I keep the hatchlings in my big rack (4" tape) for a few weeks to get the babies over the shock of hatching and then I move them to the hatchling rack.

I use 3" for all my racks. Just on my hatchling rack i slide the tape back so the whole strip isnt under the tub, i only use about half the width. I tried back heat and had a tricky time trying to get the correct graidents.
