Yeah your lucky your house didn't burn down or something... Were you using too much wattage on a single outlet?

Wow flexwatt is what I am using and I hope I don't have to go through it burning anything of mine! It's really kinda scary.

I think I know who your talking about. If so, I agree. I won't order from him anymore because it take soooo long to get your order.

Try this... http://www.bigappleherp.com/Flex-Watt-Heat-Tape

I like them because they sell the lower watt version of 3" and they are fast.

I'm curious, what part of the flexwatt failed?

I havent looked into it, but 1 square inch of it just got insanely hot, but the rest was normal.

I've gotten my flexwatt from The Bean Farm. They've always been very prompt with the shipments.

As for the overheating, you didn't have anything sitting directly on that spot that overheated did you? And consider yourself lucky. It could have been FAR worse!

happened to me not to long ago. i just got my new heat cable in, and i think thats what ill use from now on. the flexwatt got hot right under one of the moist hides (about a 1 1/2" circle). i walked into the room and smelled the melting tub. at least the gecko was smart enough to move to the other end.

for a picture of the tape, see my thread: http://www.geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=5462
