I was wondering, why do leos need a food bowl if the food is going to escape anyway? I've only had my gecko for about 5 days and he ate 1 meal worm but after that he turned his nose up at the others, and did this smacking thing that remind me of when babies try new food and they don't like it. Anyway He's not used to eating mealies or( yuckies, I'm sure that's what he would call them if he could speak)LOL!. So I went out and bought some insects that he normally eats. After looking at the superworms and crickets, they aren't going to stay in a dish. So do I need one?

No, not necessarily. If your gecko is fine eating without the dish and catching the superworms on his own then you should be fine.
But, what I would do instead is place calcium in the environment and place the super worms in there. That way when they crawl out they are already to be eaten. Not only that but if your gecko is short on calcium they will eat it from the dish.

Because

You need the food dish, if you keep mealworms. If the dish is high enough the mealies will not escape and then munch on your Leo.

Crickets will generally escape.

Super Mealworms (and probably Giant Mealworms) will escape.

The food dish is just used to keep track of the food items so that they are not lost in the cage.

So if you are not using Mealies then, you do not need a feeding dish.

You can use a calcium dish and like the other post said put the Supers in that dish and they will get dusted.

Crickets ... will do what they do. So dust them before hand and make sure that your Leo eats them so that they do not stay in the tank for long.
