Hello!
I have had my leopard gecko for a little more than 3 weeks. She has taken this long to warm up. She just started to come out of her rock while I am in the room, however only long enough to poo. When handling her I noticed she flattened out and laid there, this is usually when I am petting her. I do not know if this was a friendly and comfortable position or if she is trying to hide. She does seem comfortable like that, I just want to make sure! It seems like when she stands up tall is when she is nervous. Insight into this behavior would be helpful!
Thank you!

I had my gecko for about the same amount time....just recently he started to be a bit more calm while handling. Her laying down I would say is a good thing my gecko does the same in crevices on my leg...you might be giving off warmth that she enjoys ! :). I heard handling daily is a good thing so they get use to it...I'm pretty sure if she was trying to hide shed be hyper and eager to get away..after about 20 min handling my gecko starts getting restless so we put him back aslong as shes not biting you your fine ...sounds normal to me but im not an expert :).

I think the flattening out is an attempt at warming up. I would take this as a sign of comfort because predator avoidance (the run and hide behavior) takes precedence over the compulsion to seek heat. It basically means she felt safe enough to lounge.
