im taking him to the vet tomorrow for a fecal, if he poos tonight. i called the vet yesterday and explained the situation and set up and appointment and the vet said that because froto is a very lazy feeder, i should try tearing the legs off the crix tonight to see if that cant coax him to eat a few tonight so we can get a fecal for tomorrow. he said if he dont poo in time, just to bring a fecal in when he does.

Is he getting thinner, in the tail?

If not he could just be slowing down because it's winter. I know all of my adults have slowed down their food intake, the young ones still eat like pigs though.

his tail was very skinny, however it is plumping back up from where it was, but not where it should be, i have been ripping the heads off mealies and crix and pushing the guts out to him and he laps it up, but he still wont eat one at all. and i also been dropper feeding him a little vanilla ensure as suggested by someone on the site. he seems to be doing a little better, but not great like he needs to be. i gotta get a fecal done its the only way to really diagnose his real problem, however when there is no poo, i cant:( for now i'll just keep doing what i have been untill he poo's and then go and get one done.

I wouldn't use Ensure (designed for humans) unless prescribed by a vet. I don't know what's in Marcia's (Golden Gate Geckos) slurry but I hear that works wonders and helps to get a fecal sample.

Good luck.

Oh, if he is lapping up the guts try to push some of the crushed crix in, that should help with a fecal.

Don't forget to re-check your temps and such. Sometime they go wacky for no apparent reason.

k i made my own slurry, i didnt have access to certain things on the geckoforums slurry recipe, so i just blended fresh gutloaded crix and mealies along with a little pinch of calcium w/d3, and herpitive multi vites. a bit of water and some vinella ensure, i substituted a dropper with a meal worm dish (didnt have a dropper) and placed it to his nose, after about five minutes of him lapping it up, he decided to go ahead and take bites out of it and he pretty much ate all of it. hopefully now he poos soon, and if he does im taking off of work a day and getting a fecal to the vet.

oh i also ripped the back legs off of a few crix and placed them in there and he was going for them. so hopefully things go well.

well, nothing showed up in his fecal. the vet suggested the same thing as you did stitch about the winther months, and he also said it really gets bad with lazy feeders like froto is. he said to continue hand feeding him the slurries, because whenever i give him a bit of the slurry it tends to get him in the "mood" to eat a little more, and i notice a few missing crix afterwards. he said if i continue to do what i have been, he'll start to come around.

me too, i think his air temps needed to be raised, its been cool in our house lately, i lowered his light closer to the cage to get the air temps in his enclosure up, i use a red one at night and a white on during the day. so his UTH (floor) temps were good, however the air temps were very cool. he is doing alot better since the air temps were raised with the lights.

he is eating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more making slurries!!! he is taking crix again. thanks stitch! you were right, the overall room temp was too low and he thought it was winter, i warmed the air temps up and he is doing great!!!!!

he actually just ate two crix right out of my fingers! like he used to.

Stick with this for now since you have raised the temps. But next year let him hibernate or brumate wich ever one they call it for AFT's. They do the Hyb./Brum. for a reason, they rest and re-energize. Look at it this way if you constantly use some thing at 100% capacity it will wear down faster. You need to let it rest from time to time. This is why animals go into Hyb./Brum.

Do not let the temps go down and have him go into his rest period, this will just really throw his body off. If he is young 1-2 years old then you are not going to do any or much damage at all. If my geckos go off feed in the winter I just let them do their thing, especially since I'm trying to breed. The ones that continue to eat, well they get fed.

Yeah my young leos and the AFT's all are feeding, but the 3 adult leos that I have, have gone off feed. So like I said if your leo is young don't worry about letting the temps drop again, keep them up.
