Fruit flies suck

They invaded my mealworm beetle colony, secretly overtaking an apple and hiding out inside whilest i was on vacation so they could over take the beetles. I get back to find all of my 2 k beetles dead!!!!! But i have a few thousand babie mealies in there that are visible, dont even wanna think how many mini mini minis are in there.

Mmmmmm....Fruit flys eat fruit, at least the ones I get do. I don't think they would be the cause of your beetles dying. They normally don't last too long in the beetle stage no matter what you do.

The made the mold in the apple faster than it would habve normally happened. The mold killed the beetles.

LOL....Then blame the mold...the fruit flies are coincidental. At any rate, if you say you have visible worms, then most of those beetles were at the end of their life as it is. Even if the apple hadn't molded, you probably would have had a mass die-off simply due to old age.

these beetles were onle 2 months old. Mine live on average 4 months, im completely sels sufficient, have been for about 6 months now. I uually wait till sum of the mealies are big enough to see, sift out the beetles and move them. This colony which hasnt been added to for about a month definately shouldnt have died out yet. They all died out at the same time. I get to start over now, yay!

You should get the beetles carcasses under a microscope. Maybe you could embark on a discovery mission and find that the fruit flies did kill them after all. Seriously that sucks. Fruit flies took over my perfectly ripe bananas last night and they were gonna be my breakfast...

Forgot to mention that it works great just to provide them with the apple, carrot, potato only a few times a week for a couple hours at a time. You wouldn't believe how much better my superworms smelled after changing to this method.
