I have 2 leos at about 4 months of age in the same tank.

Im trying out keeping around 30-40 mealies in their dish at all times. Is there anything wrong with doing this?

I proably wouldn't I would put in about 20-25 every other day...If you do this every time you put in some they well proably just eat it right after and wait for more...I'm not postive on this though.

on another forum, they had a sticky talking about how mealworms can cause impaction... but i've seen people only feeding mealworms with no problems... but this entire US forum is all caution about feeding only mealworms to leos... wut's up with that..?

ummmm.... I'm not sure at all what's up with that.. the only myth about mealworms I've heard is the whole eating through the stomach bull... geez.. impaction is even sillier than that one lol

Feeding Mealworms to Leopard Geckos...
Please do yourself (and your pet) a favor and read this if you're considering mealworms as a primary source of food for your leopard gecko. It amazes me that so many people are worried about impaction from sand, when it happens just as often (if not more so) from over feeding of mealworms. Not to mention that mealworms are nutritionally poor being low in protein, low in calcium, and high in fat.

Here's the link to the article: The Pro?s and Con?s of Mealworms as a food for reptiles

Thanks to Dr. Danny Brown for writing this article and allowing us to link to it.
