Gecko ate his tail .

Any reason for that ? I have noticed he has chewed off his front toes/claws also . He is fed everyday so he is not doing it out of hunger . I figure it must be something to do with its health but any ideas ? Thanks .

I think I heard of this happening before but I have no clue why they would do it. I would take it to a vet.

Do you feed crickets? Are the uneaten ones left in the enclosure for over 24 hours?

Crickets & meal worms , they don't last very long . I might have thought they were to blame but I seen him nibbling on his tail before so I figured he did it .

Maybe he has something sticking in his tail that he is trying to bite off, or something like that?

Strange! Self mutilation in birds are common, with socialization issues and/or health reasons being issues, but I have never heard of it with these guys. Do you have any pics of the poor little guy?

Are you sure he ate it? It looks like he dropped his tail.

I am positive.The tail is nowhere in the cage...and also she occasionally eats at her front toes.Her claws are down to nubs.

In the first picture her with the tail, she seems to have shed stuck on her toes, and mayby some MBD going on. Is there a possability she's not trying to get the shed off her toes? A recent and better picture of her legs would help.

I thought the same thing as Felicia. I've never heard of them eating their toes or tail, so take a close look for any stuck shed.

The pic that I showed I had just took today.And she does have MBD.Severly.She had some skin stuck on her tail and then she got it off but she still ate the tail.

Maybe in getting the shed of her tail she irritated it and she felt as if there was some still there, and she just kept trying to get it off.
