Gecko Breakthrough!

I posted a few weeks ago that my gecko Jack took a nip at me when i tried to pet him so i left him alone for 2 weeks and my wife and i are now feeding him from the palms & fingers of our hand. We drop a mealie or a waxy on our palm and Jack will come out of his house and crawl up our arm and take the worms. It was actually pretty awesome. Sometimes he'll just sit there smacking his lips.:)

One thing i was curious about for anyone here that knows a lot about Gecko behavior. When Jack hunts his crickets and worms we noticed that he moves his tail around rapidly just before striking. When he eats off our hand he just quietly moves up to the prey and snaps at it, but there's no tail thrashing whatsoever? Is this a sign he's getting more comfortable with us? Just curious.

Thanks to everyone that's given me advice on gecko care over the past 3 weeks. Being a new gecko dad has been a blast.

The tail Shaking before he eats a bug has two purposes.
It acts as a distraction/bait for their prey as well as acting as a decoy head for any potential predators.
They are usually slow moving and camouflaged.they are most vulnerable when they are focused on prey and moving fast to catch them. If a predator was to try and eat it they often go for the head and a leopard gecko tail is a pretty good head decoy.the gecko would just drop its tail, give the predator a nice snack and a chance to get to cover and live to hunt another day.

Males will often shake their tale much more vigorously when they are ready to mate.
The slightest scent of a female gets my male racks humming like a Bumblebee.
