Gecko Can't Grab Worms?

I've had my leopard gecko for about a year and a half. Everything has been totally fine. I put mealworms in his bowl and the next morning he's eaten them.

I noticed he was a little skinnier than before about two weeks ago and have since started watching him eat.

Something I never saw before, he couldn't pick up the worms with his mouth. He tries and tries but it's like his teeth aren't grabbing them properly. Has anyone ever seen that happen?

I feed mine worms by dropping them onto a piece of rubber shelf mat. he has a tile floor and also had trouble getting them in his mouth because they would roll away, i also think they must have poor depth perception because he misses them alot when he bites at them.
