my geckos underside is darker then most and shes been with a male and id like to know how to tell if shes gravid with a dark stomach
WHAT THE F ARE YOU DOING?!?! FORCING them to breed? Keeping a male and female together all the time? If you want to make money GET A JOB, and quit trying to make money off of the suffering of your reptiles. Where are your parents?!?! Oh yea, a dark stomach is a sign of Crypto. I would take them to the vet. If you do take them to the vet, do them a favor and just let the vet have them.
Agreed, Ozy. If you just want money then get a job. If you're too young to get a job then rake leaves, shovel driveways, wash cars, ect. Breeding animals isn't something to go into lightly even when it's being done correctly. It takes a lot of time and money to properly house, feed, and generally care for the hatchlings. That's not including the set-up for a breeding project. Re-think the breeding and re-think pet ownership if you just view them as a way to make a quick buck.
To be fair, I did say "if" he was doing it just for money. I know when I was that young I was desperate for some money of my own. If I'm wrong about his age then I should be corrected. Depending on the reptile, I have nothing against young people owning them but I am against people who are financially dependent on parents (who often don't give a damn about taking a dog to a vet let alone a reptile) trying to breed them. I think it's a big undertaking at any age and financial situation even if the necessary space, housing, heating, food, ect are obtained. Basic research alone would have told him it's not the breeding season for leos. That's probably why Ozy said something about force breeding.First off, I agree with not keeping pairs together all the time and not breeding animals for the sole purpose of money... However, I don't see where the OP stated any of these things in this post. (pretty harsh words toward a young hobbiest) Many breeders in the reptile hobby started at a young age. If they would have received comments like this they may have decided to do something else instead of pursuing there passion. I would suggest at least attempting to help educate young people in the hobby instead of critcizing them.
Just my two cents.
My first post towards him was similar to what he was told a few days prior to him making this thread. My second post addressed the possibility of greed being the motivation. I didn't act like a maniac or even tactless in that post at all. Just said breeding is a big undertaking so IF money is the primary motivation then he should reconsider owning and breeding animals. But that goes for anyone.Leave the kid alone stop acting like a bunch of maniacs underestimating the kids ability cause hes a child. I did it successfully at 16, granted it took a crap load of money and time but it worked out fine. Maybe he should have done some more research but at least hes asking for help i mean seriously go away if you can't help.
