I accidentally dropped the lamp for my tank onto one of my gecko's tails, and it came off. I know that this is a normal response, but is there anything special that I need to do for it?? Quick help would be VERY appreciated.

Also if it helps, I JUST put down some repti-carpet as substrate before this happened, so I hope that helps his odds with infection

For starters, get that carpet out immediately and put in paper towel. This will need to be changed daily to keep any bacteria from getting in the wound. If your geckos are housed together, they need to be separated. We aren't vets here but if you don't have a qualified reptile vet, call around today and find one, you may need to get your gecko in for medication within a few days. Sometimes, but not always, it will heal up with simple treatments at home. There's folks here who have gone thru a tail loss incident and documented it on this forum, so hopefully they will be around at a more reasonable hour to tell you of their experiences and link to their threads.

I had something similar happen recently - but mine wasn’t a clean drop like yours. I received a lot of very useful information and help from the forum with mine.

Hopefully some of the info within can be of help.

Personally - I would bring him in to get looked at but I am also pretty new to Gecko's so I would rather get a professional opinion due my lack of experience:

Good Luck and keep us posted!

As someone said switch to papertowel immediatly. This needs to be changed every day. Anything that could possibly get the wound dirty such as moss, (real)log hide... change them to tupperware containers and put papertowel in for the moist hide. And seperate from other animals if there are any. Put neosporin on the wound and keep an eye on it as it begins to heal. Should be all you need to do.

We experienced this once and that's all we needed to do. Should healed up fine.
