my gecko (female, have had her about a week) just does not like being touched at all, she's not mean, but she always runs and tries to hide... i can't pet her gently, i can't pick her up (without her really not likeing it)... honestly the thought's going through my head of taking her back and getting a baby beardie

They need time to settle into a new home. Try talking to it gentley and every day when you feed it, move your hand close to it and see if it will go on your hand on its onw.

well i read that they can learn to tolerate being handled, but will NEVER learn to like it... so would they really go on your hand on their own? she really does not like being touched at all!

I have 33 leopard geckos currently. 7 of those are my very own hatchlings. I can pick any one of them up and hold them. They then climb up and down my shirts and hide behind my neck. It just takes time and handling them every day. If you spend the time handling them, they will even go to the front of their cage and wait for you to pick them up.

Just give her some time, when she is comfortable with you, she will come out more often; and even becomes difficult to get her NOT climb up your hand, lol.

They need time to settle like they said^__^

Try handfeeding, this can build trust, but watch out, some geckos aren't good with their aim, and accidentally bite you.

You could try just leaving your hand in there for a while so that she sees that you aren't a predator, and so she can get used to you.

When you try to pic her up, let her climb onto you, don't just grab her. Don't give up when she turns around and doesn't climb right on, you may have to be persistent with sticking your hand in front of her until she climbs on.

Also, if none of those work, try feeding her everytime you put her up after handling. This will help her see that she gets food after she's held and she'll be wanting to be held in no time.

Last thing, some geckos will never enjoy or tolerate being held, it's just the way they are. But you should try... yours sounds like she'll come around.:main_yes: Hope this gives you a bit of an idea:main_thumbsup:

It Take Your Time for them to Ride.

I have a 90 gram snow male (in warm weather) that will first get on my hand, climb my arm to my shoulder, then on up to my head. I will put my ball cap on and he rides there to the post office, to pick up wax worms. As soon as we get back I feed him all he will eat. (about 30) I didn't get him to do this the first week I got him. In fact he bit me a few times, but we kept knowing each other better each day from him learning to trust my hand in his home.. Take care. / HJ

Ahh don't take her back, mine (have 2) was exactly the same when I first got them (about a month ago) but now one of them is already walking on my hand, curious about everything and as soon as he comes on my hand my other one (my BF's) gets all nosy and will also come on my hand... My one also knows my voice and will come out inspecting everything when I try and clean his tank out. They first went on my hand when I fed him a wax worm, I think this is a good way to "bribe" them into it at first until they're a bit more used to you... Don't give up though!!

I have 2 leos that were in a classroom, so they are used to handling. When I brought them home for the summer, they would completely ignor me. Now, after a week of just having me around and not 90+ kids, if they are out of their hides they will look up at me and turn their heads to follow me. When I talk to them, they look up at me through the top of the tank. Its actually kinda cute! If I am reading or watching tv, they will stare at the tv or at the pages of the book I'm reading. Give her time; she will come around :D.

I have one leo and he refused to be touched at the first few weeks I got him. Nowadays I can handle him sometimes
