Hi:

My gecko who I have had for approx. one month seems to be losing weight. She will only eat a few pin head crickets and no mealworms. I think I have been doing everything right; two heat zones, gut loaded crickets, calcium and vitamins available, water, moist moss, hiding area, misting etc. I purchased an under the tank heater today, could this possibly be the problem, i.e. not having that. Is there anything I can do to get her back on the road to eating and gaining weight. Her stool sees fine and she is active as well. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Your gecko only needs one heating pad, also are you using any sort of loose substrate.

Hi:

I have paper towels for a substrate right now as I read that until they are 6 inches not to use anything else and she is just about 6 inches. I have the heat lamp on one side of the tank so she can be either warmer or cooler, but just bought the under the tank because I read it is better for their digestion, but haven't changed around the tank yet.

Well you sound like you are doing good on the substrate, I would ditch the heat lamp and just use the Under Tank Heater.

Pinhead crickets are too small for even a hatchling leopard gecko. They will eat calcium-dusted crickets about 1/2 - 3/4 the size of their heads. Also, once you get the floor temperature at around 90-92 degrees with a UTH, it should help a lot.
