Gecko mood?

I have a question, I have a rack for my leopard geckos. My question is, Would the geckos kept in the rack be stressed out without any hides? Its dark in the back of the rack. And they are in thier own room.

Wow- you sound stressed over not having an immediate response. Sorry, I was busy cleaning cages, separating breeding pairs, caring for my laying females and new hatchlings, feeding the males extra crickets as they are unhappy the girls were moved and they needed comfort, soaking my fatty who was struggling a bit with her shed, and a few other things too.

Now to your question- ALL reptiles require a place to conceal themselves no matter the enclosure. The hide. It's in the care sheets......even basic ones.

Just to elaborate on Laney's post; the hide makes the gecko feel secure because it is a small enclosed space, they can feel the sides and roof (depending on how big the hide is) and so they feel secure because anything big enough to harm them can't fit in (or at least that's my working hypothesis).

If you need some quick and easy DIY hides you can use plastic margarine containers, sour cream tubs, etc, or you could use things like mac&cheese boxes, cracker boxes, paper towel rolls, paper based electronics packaging, and just about any opaque empty container you have lying around the house. Just cut an entrance and file/melt down the edges so they're smooth. I like to leave my hides plain for a DIY look. Hope this helps.

you could also use egg cartons like you get when you buy crickets (use brand new ones ) also i find that a coffe carry out tray works aswell i ust them for my hatchlings

or you can go and buy the expensive ones from a pet shop or online

and to answer your question yes they need a hide somewhere they can go to get away from everything

how would you like it to be placed in a tub with out anything but a waterdish and a food dish?
