they do tend to eat it all so predators cant find them, but don't be to worried if he dosn't eat it all as he might just have been too full :D. always check their toes have shed properly as these are the worst places to retain skin. toes will drop off if skins left on for too long.

I am going to hijack the thread since I am also in the category of never having seen one of my geckos shed. I do check her toes/face on a regular basis for skin just in case. Do they shed based on growth? She has a very difficult eater and therefor has not grown very much (I am working with her though on that issue). Could her lack of growth contribute to that as well?

Yeah mine shed the other day for the first time since I got him and had a lot that he had ripped off and not eaten. He was probably just too full. =)

I found a tail shed once that looked like a tornado, all one piece. Usually they prefer to shed in privacy, but occasionally I see one nipping and ripping off the old skin. They shed more when in growth spurts.

Sometimes mine eats her skin, sometimes she doesn't. She sheds about every 2 weeks. And yes, watch the toes! It's a good idea to check their bodies every day to look for anything out of the ordinary. When I inspected my girl the other day, I knew she had just shed because there was some left on her toes. She almost lost a toe a couple weeks ago so now I soak her in warm water for 15 minutes when she's done and gently wipe her toes with a wet Q-tip till it comes off.
