Hello. I am looking for a first pet gecko and I'm wondering what type to get. I really like the cresteds, but I want something bigger and I'm afraid they might lose their tail. I was looking at the New Caledonian Giants, but they are hard to find and a little out of my range. Any suggestions on what to get? Thanks in advance!

Giant Geckos or Lechianus are similar to Cresteds, but are more of a advanced care gecko. Cresteds are the best to start off with and easy to care for don't require extra lighting or really heat as long as you keep and average 68-78*F house and do good on just Pangea Crested Gecko Diet, with bugs sometimes, and possibly mixing In dehydrated fruit flies in the CGD with a little extra Calcium. All in all Cresteds are your best starter, Leopard Geckos require everything Cresteds don't and similar care to Bearded Dragons. Cresteds generally drop their tails throughout their lives and it isn't necessary to their health unlike with Leopard Geckos, Lechis can drop their tails as well from what I've heard and it's just like the Cresteds it's not necessary to their health. As long as you want one without worries and great colors and easy care and are easy to handle Cresteds are the best starters, Leo's can be easy to handle, but for a long time they're generally wild acting(6 Leo's and I ended up giving away because they were Psychos lol) Cresteds I've never had a problem with except buying from +++++ I bought 2 that ended up being sick and died not long after getting them home. ++++++++s usually are healthier, but it varies area to area. But all in all Cresteds are the best to me and for anyone starting out, but if you get something later on Lechis are great lifetime pets that are overly chill and love to just rest on you. And are getting more and more colors over the years and they arnt hard to come by just takes alot of research Facebook has thousands of Gecko Breeders and I'll add a few links to websites that carry Lechis.
