Before anyone starts reading: Yes she has been to a vet. Also, i apologize for the following novel.

About your leo:
- Sex Female
- Age & Weight: 4 yrs, currently 85grams
- How long have you owned your leo 4 years
- Where was he/she obtained (ex. Pet store, breeder, wild caught, friend)
PetSmart
A) Health/History
- How often do you handle your leo
not very often, but she was handled enough to be very tolerating.
- Is your leo acting any different today? If so how does he/she normally act which differs from now.
From trying to get her to take medications (crushing and placing in food/water in a syringe) she no longer tolerates being handled AT ALL, and other serious issues to be described soon
- Has he/she had any problems in the past, if so please describe.
Has only had stuck shed in an eye before, which I made a thread about a few years ago.
B) Fecals
- Describe (look any different than normal)
When she has them, its very loose because she's having to be force fed.
- When was the last time he/she went
Within the last few days
C) Problem
- Please briefly describe the problem and how long it has been going on

She had an appetite for a while but would seemingly have trouble "hitting the mark" when trying to eat mealworms (kept missing but would eventually get it and eat). Then she seemed to not want to open her mouth fully to be able to bring the food further into her mouth. She would just shake it and end up dropping it. She visually looked normal at this point. Eventually she lost her appetite which she has done before so I let it go.

I then started noticing she kept her eyes closed unless I picked her up so I checked her eyes, and they both had a little piece of stuck shed which I flushed out with saline. She still kept them closed. Its been over a month since she ate, and kept it down (new problem... sigh). She wouldn't even look at mealworms so I gave her waxworms which she readily opened her eyes for and ate 4-5 of. She regurgitated them the next day or so.

I then tried repta boost which she at first threw up but kept down the next couple of servings. (less than even the intended amount).

I bought phoenix worms which she ate 4 of and then regurgitated within 15 minutes.

I finally took her to the vet (my family kept telling me "no, we don't have the money for it, she's a lizard." {we have a lot of financial issues}). The vet said she's not impacted, and may have some sort of upper GI Infection because of the regurgitation. She said she's also very dehydrated. She gave her subcutaneous fluids and prescribed Baytril to be given twice daily and Metronidazole to be given a half pill that day and a half in 2 weeks. I was told to force feed with Hill's A/D at least twice a day.

She at first was accepting but now either regurgitates the medicine or never swallows it. She held her mouth open and I saw it in her throat (crushed in water, the fluid was in her throat).

I left her alone for a couple days to relax but that last bit is how she was tonight. Idk what to do. She closes her eyes even when holding her now (probably because she knows I'll look).

She has an abscess under one eye which the vet was hoping might subside with the baytril. It seems to be getting worse.

I need to feed her and she's next to me soaking in some water, but she's getting so stressed and it looks like even broke a toe trying to get away from me :( I'm trying so hard to help and it just seems to make things worse.

Edit: Tried to feed her, she instantly flailed around (I'm using a washcloth and "taco-ing" her with it as told to by the vet, probably how a toe broke...) and tried to feed her and she instantly held her mouth wide open with the food still in it so I put her down... She left feces in the wash cloth which was mostly solid (one solid mass, some urate, and some liquid). I took a pic if necessary. I'll try to take a pic of her eye tomorrow.

Edit 2: Her mouth is clean/clear, and her joints and such are good. They did a fecal and didn't see anything.

Housing:
A) Enclosure
- Size 20gal
- Type (ex. glass tank) Glass
- Type of substrate Paper Towels
- Hides, how many, what kind 2, 1 humid on the cool side, 1 cave thing over the UTH
B) Heating
- Heat source UTH on one side
- Cage temps (hot side, cool side) cool side = 78ish, I'll check after I finish; warm = 90-92.
- Method of regulating heat source: I check with a probe thermometer left on the warm side in her cave on the floor. I have a dial for turning the temp up and down.
- What are you using to measure your temps: probe thing
- Do you have any lights (describe): One of those moonlight things that don't put out much/any heat and it blueish.
C) Cage mates: None

Describe Diet:
A) Typical diet
- What you're feeding (how often, how much)
Mealworms, as many as she wants.
- How are you feeding (hand fed, left in dish, ect)
Hand fed normally, dropped in front of her. She's always been lazy.
B) Supplements (describe how often)
- What vitamin/minerals are you using (list brands)
Rep-Cal Herptivite and Calcium with Vitamin D. She hates when i dust and normally refuses to eat if I dust, but I try. She has a dish of plain calcium available that I know she uses.
- What are you gut loading food with: Apples, carrots, etc.

When a leo is rail thin and in dire straits ive suggested to people to pick the leo up and firmly hold her vertically so she cant thrash about.Have your meds ready with one hand. With the same hand u have the meds in gently tap on one side of her jaw.She will instinctively open her mouth and that is when u dispense some meds a little at a time.the good thing your leo has some weight to her, but try my suggestion. You can even try the assist method with some small prey

@Sausage- She'll lick off the first couple of dots, and then she just leaves whatever else on her face. She'll rub her face against the paper towels or her cave afterwards.

@Roger- I'll try giving her the meds that way and hope she swallows them/doesn't regurgitate them.

I've left her alone for 3-4 days now because of how much she is stressing. She shed yesterday and seems more active than she has been this entire time... But she still won't eat. She doesn't even look at waxworms.

Actually, the other day she did shed, and she's been noticeably more active... walking around the tank, eyes open, I've seen her licking at her calcium dish and drinking. She even ate 2 waxworms and a cricket, which took a lot of coaxing...

She would do her tail twitching thing like she's about to attack, but would just walk up to it and kind of lick at it. I don't think she had the energy to strike it. Even the waxworms took some effort (she would "gently" try to pick them up).

She had a bowel movement and it looks small but normal, and she hasn't regurgitated her food, yet...

I'm not sure what happened with the shedding, but she's waaaay better now. She's no longer going to let me handle her... but her being alive most important obviously.

oh good :)
might be that what meds she did get have kicked in to.
hopfuly now shes started she will carry on. When i give mine meds i have a plastic box thats really a draw, but its lined with an old jumper for comfort. When its meds time they go in the box and a dab meds on their mouths for them to lick as they please. Takes a lot longer but atleast they arnt stressed and wont hate me.
hope all get 100% better soon

I put mine in a tub to administer both oral meds and feed slurry unless they are very accepting of a pipette dropper. Reducing the stress for any treatments is better for the animal, and they are more tolerable to accepting it. It's also a benefit for difficult feeders.

Another update:

thanks for all the support by the way :)

She is constantly eating now. She has zero interest in mealworms now but absolutely loves the thrill of hunting crickets lol. Occasionally I'll see her sloooowly walking through her tank with her tail doing this slow cat-like bending/waving motion that she does while hunting.

She'll eat 3-6 crickets a day now. I suppose she's eating so much to get her weight back. Her skin has gone very dark during this whole situation, but I've read stress can do that. I hope it returns to normal.

She also allows me to handle her now. I only do it to move her so that I can put her hides back in (I remove them so its easier for her to get crickets), but she at least isn't trying to instantly run.

I'm not sure what's going on with her abscess. I'll keep checking it.
