I got Tippy Saturday. Set up the tank and gently let her in ( I let her walk out of the bag on her own). I didnt bother her or the tank until yesterday. I was planning on putting my hand in the tank so she could get used to me (wasnt going to try to handle her). As soon as my hand was three inches from the lid her tail immediately went straight into the air and she raised her self straight on her legs. Yeesh! I pulled my hand back out but she just stood like that for a few seconds before darting into her warm hide. What a brat :main_rolleyes:. I'm going to try the hand thing again today. I need to clean the poo, give her fresh water and get a few pieces of skin out. So the brat is going to have to deal with me being in there haha.

On a side note, she did eat 5 mealies last night. I was surprised and glad since the reptile shop only fed crickets

Yep. I was just surprised on how fast she reacted. I felt bad because I didnt mean to scare her into a defense posture. She watched while I took the lid off and everything. Good things come with time I guess :)

My rocks was the same way. I was ignorant enough to believe when he raised his back to my finger he wanted petting.LOL I guess I am too used to my cat. Anyway, Rocks is a brat too. I have had him for about 3 weeks and he still doesn't want me to touch him. He will no longer bite me though which is a good thing. What I have done is when I feed him I put my hand between him and his favorite hide. I don't move my hand at all cause he likes to think my hand is food and then gets upset when he can't ingest one of my fingers. Eventually he began crawling right over my hand. He is calming down a bit. I have also started taking him out of his enclosure for meal time. He is not to crazy about this but I think eventually he will relate my hand to food and will hopefully climb up on my hand to get out.

When I first got Sappho (I'm calling her Sappho again, poor thing, she doesn't know what her name is anymore :D) she wasn't squirmy or vicious, but she would stand straight up on her legs and raise her tail up at me. Since she wasn't hissing or anything, I held her anyway, and eventually she got used to me. If she was hissing and clearly terrified, then I would have been more careful. I think the whole standing up thing was a sort of 'What the crap are you?' thing and after she figured out 'Oh, it's the food lady,' she got over it. Now she'll lay flat with her belly against my palm because it's warm. Or try to climb up my arm and chill on my shoulder.

One of mine, Leonidas, did that too. But with alot of persistance and with the help of some on the prior suggestions and techniques on the forums, he's gotten alot better. At this point I can let him crawl around on the floor and such (supervised obviously).

Just keep at it, it does work.

I tried again today...with the same response haha. I didnt take my hand out this time. I just let it sit in there for a few minutes. She walked right next to my hand at the end though. So its progress!
