My son has had 2 female gecko's since first part of Oct 2011. They have been doing good and just recently neither would eat. The one gecko would eat a few worm 1 or 2 but his other hasnt ate any for probley the last week of feeding. We usually try to feed every other night. The smaller gecko is now eating ok. She has never been a strong eater. But the one that was a strong eater is now not eating at all. When I put the meal worms down in front of her ( this is how I has always feed them) She doesnt even act interested at all doesnt even act like she sees the worms. I think this is the going on the 2nd week she hasnt ate much. The first week of her not eating at all. She and the other sleep during the day and come out and are active at night but she wont eat. What could be wrong? I dont know what to do. I havent change anything in the tank or the enviroment. Could she be going blind? I dont know how to tell that on a gecko. If she is will she not be able to eat anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My son and I have only had geckos going on 7 months did a lot of research on them before. But not sure about this. They have always been fed mealworms. The last time we bought worms I feed them some mealworms and some superworms.

Thanks

How old are the geckos? Around this time of year it is normal for geckos to stop eating for a period of time, some will do it for months. As long as they keep at a consistent weight it will be okay. However, if they are juvi's (babies), then it isn't normal to my knowledge. Do you have a scale? You should weigh both geckos and monitor their weight. Maybe post some pictures so we can see what they look like and if they have fat enough tails. There could be a lot of things wrong that we can only guess at, but I would say a quick trip to the vets would be a good idea. The vet will check the overall health of the geckos and they shouldnt probably also have fecal samples taken to check for parasites. At this point I would take a guess at saying I don't think your gecko is blind, but do a quick check and see if she responds to the lights being turned on and off in the room its in, or does it look at you when you enter the room and follow your movements with its eyes? If so, it isn't blind.

Do you keep them in seperate enclosures or in the same tank? Another thing to consider is one could be bullying the other. Also, if you take them to the vet and one has parasites or something, they should be seperated asap so as to try not to spread the sickness.

Sorry I forgot to include their age. They are almost 2 years old. They in the same encloser it is a fairly large one. I never see any bullying they seem to get along perfect. I will check the light thing havent noticed. The one that is not eating has always (since we got her) had a fat tail. It is still is fat. The other has always had a smaller tail and not been as big of an eater. But she is eating now. We keep them on reptile carpet not sand. They have a point hide on 1/2 cool and 1/2 warm. A seperate warm hide and a seperate cool hide. Under tanks heater. Over head light but it is only turned on when I am feeding them. I dont think we have a vet in our area that see Geckos but I will check the surronding area.
Thanks

From what you have described, I don't see anything wrong. As long as they are holding onto their weight, I wouldn't be worried. Make sure that you get a scale and start monitoring their weight. If they are 2 years old they are adults now, and geckos (especially females) will stop eating at around this time every year, and like I said, it could last a few months, so as long as they don't loose weight they sound to be okay to me.

Its always a good idea to know where the local vets are that take reptiles, and the days and hours of operation just in case you are ever in an emergency situation, so continue to search for vets anyway!

Thanks so much. I will start trying to find a reptile vet and I will start weighting the lizards and start recording it to keep an eye on there weight.
