Explain more a contest?... But positive effects would be... helping more people, maybe getting some more gecko experts that can expand our knowledge in geckos, making new friends! Negatives... Trolls, Trolls, Trolls!!! rude people!!! arrogant people!!! know it all's!!! Idk I think it would be good to get some more new people. I tell people about the site all the time!!

Maybe you're right Tanner... if we encourage people to just invite everyone they know, we may end up with more than our share of trolls. I like the way it is right now, a great core group of gecko keepers who want to help others and the hobby

Yes and it seems like we get one straggler a week that stays and contributes. I mean the site is only what less than 3 months old? And we already have a pretty active site! I think we are growing at a good rate and people will see it's welcoming and a place to establish good husbandry skills and good friendships.

I didn't realize the site was so new. I did observe, however, that there wasn't as much activity as there is on other forums (i.e. Tortoiseforum.org) I really like the closeness of everything, everyone recognizes everyone and it's not like thirty people are commenting/messaging one day and 40 different ones another day.

Ya it literally started in November its really really new!!! Tortoiseforums has over 10,000 members i think we have under 150 here. We do kind of have the same vibe as TF... But it seems like Tom, EmyEmys, and them run the show. Haha I would like to think of myself as the EmysEmys of this site :) Christian and Susie should understand that reference!!! HAHA

Speaking of Tortoise Forum; out of 11,356 registered members, less than 2000 have more than 10 posts. Around half of the registered members haven't made a single post. So numbers don't tell the whole story. The important thing to realize is that tortoise forum isn't busy because of the number of members but because of the activity of a few members. I think Yvonne's pretend chat has kept some around longer than they would have stayed otherwise. There's only so much that can be said about any subject. An active off-topic section usually keeps people around longer than the actual on-topic forums.

I think natural growth would be better than 'forced' growth.
