I currently have my 3 juvies in a 10 gallon tank until my new rack is finished. They have plenty of room for the moment and are doing quite well. The question I have is about UTH. I currently have a Zoomed 10gallon on the hot side of course with hides on both side of the tank. I just ordered 4" flexwatt tape and a rheostat that should be here next week. Should I have my thermostat sensor taped directly to the glass bottom with the carpet over it and shoot for a slightly higher temp or try to secure the sensor to the carpet. Of course this becomes a problem as the carpet ages so I was thinking to the glass with the carpet over it... What do you guys think?

Tape it to the glass, but use a different thermometer probe to set it from the top of the carpet, which you can remove once you get your temp where you want it..

I take a very small piece of basic double sided tape and apply it to the bottom of the probe, then stick that on the carpet. I haven't had to change the tape once yet and have had to adjust the probe when picking up hides, etc. Works quite well long term or you can use it as a quick fix.
