Genetic Question

Hi All,

I have a genetics question I'm hoping to get some insight on. I tried to run this scenario through the genetics calculator mentioned in a few of the posted replies in this section but I 'm not finding the choices necessary.

If I took a Male Mack Snow Eclipse and bred him to a Reverse Stripe Eclipse 100% het Raptor, what would the outcome be?

Am I right on thinking the breakdown would be

1/4 Eclipse
1/4 Eclipse het Raptor (what %)
1/4 Mack Snow Eclipse
1/4 Mack Snow Eclipse het Raptor (what %)

Or would I get something far more skewed than that because of the raptor, and is it even worth attempting this combo?

Yes, your calculations are correct.

You should also have a chance at various patterns, like stripes, reverse stripes, patternless stripes, and jungles.

I see no reason why this pairing wouldn't be worth it. =)

That could end up being a very fun pairing. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up hatching out some albinos as well. Most eclipses are het albino, usually Tremper.

I believe your calculations are correct. Both your Eclipses and Mack Snow Eclipses would be 50% possibility het for Raptor, because half of each would carry the het trait, you just wouldn't know which ones.

Thanks Everyone for your replies.

When I said worth it, what I was trying to convey is that if 50% of the offspring is het Raptor and I can't tell which 50%, then using them for breeding purposes becomes more of a challenge.

Not sure if my above logic makes sense.

Not knowing which carry the het makes it more fun

I'd incubate 2-3 eggs for male, and the rest for female, and hold back 2 males and 2 or 3 females.

Breed one of the males back to mom and one of the siblings, and breed the other male to the remaining siblings. You'll likely hit at least one tremper out of it.

And like mentioned, you very well may hit tremper from the original pairing, since very few eclipses have been cleaned of albino hets.
