I am so mad at Georgia reptile laws. They prohibit the keeping of native reptiles as pets. This wouldn't bother me if the house I was staying at wasn't surrounded by armies of lizards and snakes. Seriously, doing herpetology from a distance is fun but I really want to catch one of the Anoles. In Florida they only prohibit endangered reptiles, Here if you so much as catch a simple frog your done for. Now maybe this is just me but I'm bummed, I have to stay 2 weeks with lizards just taunting me. :disappointed::dunce2:

I appreciate the laws here in GA to be honest, it prevents people from catching and selling many animals which are sold through the pet trade- Such as those Green Anoles, which have been nearly wiped out in FL because of the invasive brown and knight anoles. I rather enjoy watching them outside in my garden.

The laws may suck, but they have their reasons.

Georgia is a great place to be a herper. You can't collect any non-venomous reptiles and amphibians, but nothing prevents you from finding them, recording them, photographing them and leaving them there. Great species, good diversity, nice wild areas within a convenient distance from urban and suburban areas.

Plus, B.W. Smith. That alone makes it a great state.
