Yep, that's right. We're thinking of getting a cel phone. I have never EVER had a cel, and was quite proud of that fact!!! Too many people center their lives around their phone (a little bit like some people and the internet :main_laugh: ). Plus, there is NOTHING I hate more than a person who is driving and talking on their cel. EVERY near-miss I've had in my car in the last 6 - 7 years involved some jerk on their phone who's too busy talking to drive.

All that being said...I think the time has come to get one. For one thing, I need to be able to reach Eric when the baby is on it's way. It's nearly impossible to reach him if he's at work using their phone system. Take the last time I tried to call him....

Operator: Is this an emergency? Employees are not allowed to take non-emergency phone calls.

Me: Didn't I just say I was in the emergency room?

Beyond that, I figured it would be good to use for the ol' gecko and art "business". Eventually I'll have a site running, and need some contact info. I figure a cel would be best as I can take calls anywhere.

So, I'm finally at a point in my life where having a cel phone makes sense...so why am I dreading it so much?

I'm thinking of using US Cellular's National Plan, and get the Samsung SCH-a570. Any users of these care to share some reviews? I'm open to suggestions.

I use the family plan for verison. It's really like the ONLY phone service that works in our little town lol XD I'm not sure on the phone...it's an LG phone. Takes pics and small recordings. It's flip so on the top I have a small video of bearded dragons eating, and then when you open it up it's a picture of a leachie :D hehe!

I certainly do not center my life around the cell phone, and i DEFINATLY will not take calls while I am driving or call while I am driving unless an emergency! I hate that also, and when your driving you really need to pay attention!

First of all... cell* LOL!

Having a cell phone is going to open all new doors for you! And as for taking calls "anywhere"... well that just depends on the service you get. I haven't used EVERY cell provider, but pretty close and here's what I've learned... DO NOT use Sprint. Nextel is allright, but they just merged with Sprint... I've had more dropped calls, and calls failed since Nextel was bought out by Sprint. It's better to use Cingular or Verizon. Also, the Razor (RZOR) is a piece of crap. Basically what you'l find in a cell phone company are a bunch of ignorant people who don't really know what they're talking about!! I'd do all of your own research from documents that you can find on their websites, as opposed to calling and speaking to a person. Oh, also, the best brand of cell phone that you can use is a motorolla; I had a Samsung in the past and it broke more than I used it!

Good luck with the cell phone, and wait till you get the manual on how to use it!! lol I have faith ;) Best wishes!

BTW, didn't anyone ever tell you it's very dangerous to contradict a pregnant woman?

Good luck, Shanti. Whatever you do, DON'T get a LG-VX6100 unless you're in the market for an expensive paper weight.

EDIT: I meant LG, not VG.

That was the reason I got mine! I wanted to be sure I could find my husband when it was time!! :main_yes: Although I went into labor during the night both times - lol! It is also important to be reachable when the kids are in day care / school. And if you use it for your geckos & art you can even right it off!

I hate cell phones! I never turn mine on or give anyone the number. When I am not home or working, I don't want to talk to anyone. The only times I use it are:

- I'm vending at a trade show. I need to get an authorization on a credit card.
- I'm late.
- I'm lost. (Usually why I'm late).
- I'm on my way... is there anything I need to pick up?
- I'm at the store. I forgot... was it Coors or Bud you wanted?

I hear you there Marcia!! There have been very, very few times I wished I had one. You pretty much listed every reason! LOL

I second that. I'm on my fourth and going to get it replaced again shortly.

I currently own a Motorolla V710 from Verizon and I'm very pleased. It has a bazillion options and I'd recommend the V710 or the E815 (basically the same with a few new features) to anyone.

I have also noticed that the RAZR from Motorolla has a history of defecating on its users. So, I agree with everyone on that note.

Motorolla has a reputation of being able to hold reception better than other phones. LG can have issues with that at times. (I bet Paul and his electronic paperweight agree with me on that one :main_yes: )

Overall, I'd rank Motorolla as being an overall better phone, but I'll give LG kudos for being easy to learn and figure out. :)

Edit: Defecating, not deficating. (THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MISS LIPPY!)

Mike, Mike, Mike... you spelled defecating wrong. Didn't I teach you better than this? <<shakes head in disappointment>>

LOL Val....I hope you've learned your lesson and have decided to get something other than a RZOR!!

I'm unfortunately locked into it, and just have to threaten running it over with my car. It's covered under warranty for a year, so they can keep replacing it until that runs out.

I still don't have one- since i don't drive and i ride my bike around the small town that i live in-a cell phone is kinda hard to use while you're riding your bike-LOL
My BF does have one for work and i have to admit that I do occasionally use it on the weekends-usually when the cordless goes dead cause I've left it off the charger
me bad
Sandy
PS- he is eligible for a new phone and i have been looking at the Sony Road Warrior-he drives a cab and is always dropping the Motorola that he got free 2 years ago and I doubt that many plain no frills phones are still around these days
The road warrior is the closest that i could come to a tough phone with no frills-which is what he wants
A phone with no camera-and he doesn't text mess-or play games on it
In it's defense-the cheapo motraola that he got free still works despite him
We have Sprint and he has had very few problems with dropped calls etc
