Getting First Crestie Tonight..

Hey there everyone! As of right now - I have two Leos, but have always wanted (and preferred) Cresteds. Turns out - my neighbor has been looking to re-home hers all of this time that I've been looking. All I know right now is that he's roughly a year old, comes in a 20 gallon, and has been eating live crickets. He comes with everything (for free!). She does have some Repashy diet, but apparently he isn't too fond of it - any way to make this more appealing for him? I believe she got him from Zoo Creatures (N.E.R.D) in Plaistow, NH. I plan on buying an 18x18x24 exo terra to put him in eventually, and decorating it up really nice.

Any tips? Is there anything I can feed him other than crickets and attempting the Repashy? Also, I live in northern massachusetts - it's been quite chilly here lately. Will I need any supplemental heating?

Thanks! Hopefully I'll have pictures of him tonight! I'm thinking I'll name him Lazarus ;)

Congrats on your first! I'm sure you'll love him.

I know that dusting the crickets in the Repashy diet sometimes works. This way the gecko still goes for the cricket, and gets the taste of the Repashy. But, always leave a cap of Repashy in the tank. Maybe start with a smaller amount in the cap so you can monitor if he's eating. Try to offer him less crickets and this may force him to eat the CGD.

Remember to post pictures!

Thanks for the tips! I just picked him up, and was a bit disappointed. He's a bit small for his age (and I think he may be a she) - and was only in a ten gallon! I'll be putting him in a larger tank ASAP (probably an exo-terra, but it may be a few weeks before I have the extra cash. I'm taking pictures now so we can figure out his coloring.

He may be small for his/her age because of her sole diet of insects. As you start integrating CGD into her diet, you may see a growth spurt!

Definitely a girl, looks like a buckskin possibly a low end flame. Nice structure on her!

Yeah, when I got her I was like 'that doesn't look male to me..'. Oh well, today is just full of surprises :main_rolleyes:. Can't argue when she was free! Can you house females together? I was thinking of perhaps getting a second one after I have my exo-terra all set up and one Lazarus (formerly known as 'Larry the Lethargic Lizard) is all adjusted. But I'm not sure how housing works with multiple cresties.

Thanks again for being so helpful - and the fast replies!
