This is my Ghost Mantis, Chuck. It's a male, 5th stage. It's currently eating 3wk old crickets, and whatever moths I can grab by the front porch light. I've had it since it was 1st stage, and eating fruitflies. It'll shed 2 more times before it's an adult.
What an interesting-looking creature. The praying mantis that live here are very plain-looking. (And very outgoing. Would try to fight with you if you get too close)
The adult female of the pair I had. She ended up eating him ( "communal" species my ass). I decide to sell her when I couldn't find an adult mate for her. She ended up in a friend's breeding colony.
I love Mantis. I have always read that the female will decapitate the male at some point. I would never keep a pair together.
I seen a really big one last year at the Menards. I haven't seen them in the wild since I was a kid.
