I went to my pet store and I asked for mealworms but they said they only had giant; thinking they are just large mealworms but then i found out they feed them steroids? should i be feeding these to my leopards? Is it okay? Is it okay for them if she has a clutch of eggs? Please let me know asap, they already ate a lot...

It's actually been a well known practice for years. It isn't the store, it's the mealworm farms. It's a way to make Tenebrio molitor almost as large as Zophobas morio.

The hormone they give (I'm not sure exactly what it is, to be honest) prevents them from pupating, so instead of developing into pupae and beetles, they use their energy growing bigger.

I have no idea what the original idea/rationale behind this practice originally was.
If anyone knows, I'm all ears.

Your leos won't die, but stop feeding them those as soon as you can buy mealworms online. You should be able to find some and have them shipped to you in a couple of days. And those giant mealworms are common, not illegal as they are mostly used for fishing.

Oh, okay i will not feed them the giant's anymore. I'll just feed them to my breeder mice since they love em. Thank you very much and now i will have giant mealworms, superworms (for breeding), and then mealworms (for feeding and breeding) Thanks!
