I'm far from an expert; but from what I understand, unless your gecko specifically has the "giant/super giant" gene, they are just a REALLY large gecko. Do you know your geckos history? That's really the only way you can know if you just have a large gecko, or a true giant!

I have a male tremper albino that is about 1.5 years old. He is 11 inches long and at last weigh in he was 121 grams. I do not consider him a giant since I have no idea about his genetics. But he is large!

Oh gotcha...yeah I rescued him from someone who knew NOTHING about him and didn't take very good care of him. He was very underweight when I first got him. I've only had him about a year and has grown a good amount since I actually feed him unlike the previous owner. So maybe he is just a big boy then?! :)

Yep! Can't be called giant unless you know the genes. I have a male I produced myself named Squirt. He's the one in my avatar. He came from two average, if not slightly on the smaller side, parents. Now at 2 years old he is 105g and over 11inches long. No giant gene there, just a well fed, well taken care of, happy leo! (who enjoys the occasional mouse when my snakes refuse :p ) I suspect yours is just a healthy happy boy as well!

Beautiful Leo! I have 2 giants (possible super giants), which I have had about a month. When I purchased them from a breeder-I was told they were giants as both parents were giants genetically.

I weighed mine today. He is no longer 121 grams....he is now 126 grams. He does not really eat that much. I'm wondering when he's going to stop.

Goegeous leo!! He does look a bit chunky. I have a similarly sized male that I've been trying to get to lose some weight for some time now. I've been feeding him 20 mealworms a week and he manages to maintain his bulk. I'm going to go down to 20 every other week for the winter I think. These guys are just too efficient!!

Thanks! I wish he would of stayed straightened out b/c he isn't really chunky looking when he is straight. I think I've spoiled him since I got him b/c when I first got him, he wasn't in the greatest shape. He has definitely put on some weight but he eats about every 3 to 4 days and eats 1, maybe 2 superworms. So he doesn't even eat that much. But yeah he is my little buddy!

Thank you! Yeah the previous owner knew nothing about him...he was just trying to get rid of him and didn't say much when I picked him up. I just have a big boy I guess ;)

126 grams? WOW! Big boy :) How big do supers get? Or what is the biggest one recorded, if you know?

As far as I know, he is not a giant or a supergiant. He is just a tremper albino that came from a petstore. So unknown genetics. He is very big though!

Steve Sykes has a 170g, there may be larger out there but that's the largest I know of in united states. I have a 160g+ super giant mack snow raptor. With genetic super giants, it's not just about the weight, but also the length and body structure. Larger head & snout, stocky torso and legs, long body & tail. They should be large without being overweight and obese. I've seen some people call theirs giants/super giants when their geckos are clearly obese with a balloon tail.

Also it's the males that get the size & weight, females don't tend to get as large or as heavy.
