Golden morph?

My friend told me my gecko might have a Golden morph. I've never heard of it before. He said this because my gecko's head is very shiny and yellow. I can't get a pic of him now as I am in Seattle. My gecko is being taken cared of by my friend in Malaysia.

I do not see a problem with naming a morph as being golden as long as the said morph breeds true to it's name. And, for someone to belittle a fellow leopard gecko breeder for naming a line that they created as golden, just goes to show how very small minded some people truly are - especially if that someone has no idea what they are talking about. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself either ;)

What makes it golden versus the SHT variants that are all over the market?

I think they are pretty hyperxanthic leopard geckos. Arguably, they are to the greater end of the high-yellow morph spectrum, which is why hyperxanthic is a perfect descriptor. Maybe a sprinkling of marketing here or there by some, but nothing extreme or unduly exaggerated, IMO. However, A SHT Eclipse het nothing is exactly that. Not much need for a new name. People may have differing opinions, though. I could also start calling normals/wild types something like Orthodox Mosaics, but that would be overstepping bounds for me.

I didn't name them myself, credit goes to JMG for that one. A High Yellow would have some black pigment, these have none. If you look closely you can tell there is some purple and some brown, but no black at all. They are a lesser known morph.

I know. I have checked everything on their site several times over in the past and have made my own purchases from them. What they did, IMO, is appropriate in terms of naming their morph. Hyperxanthic is high-yellow by definition. I am saying that the morph called hyperxanthic is high-yellow taken to a more refined degree.

not just a name I cooked up.

You guys are arguing past each other. The conversation went from a certain thing being called Golden "because" and then you brought up the Hyperxanthic, which is another issue and morph. He wasn't refering to JMG's Hyperxanthics, but something else originally, as was I.

...and they are quite refined.

I realise that...

I'm just saying that Hyper Yellow Xanthics are the nearest thing to "golden" that I'm aware of. That's all, no argument necessary. None of us is a true Geneticist, correct me if I'm wrong.
