My Hovabator finally arrived, and it is huge! I have a few questions. Do you put any water in it? When you have to change the temperature, do you turn the screw itself, or the wingnut? Thanks in advance!
With my hovabator, I have ziploc bags filled with water under the metal screen. It really helps keep the temps constant. To change the temps, you need to loosen the wingnut, move the screw, then tighten the wingnut back on. I have found the a full rotation is about a degree and a half. But it could be more or less.
I know some people have already asked this, but won't the water leak from the bags? Also, have you've found the Hovabator useful? I'm planning on breeding my Leopard geckos pretty soon, but I don't know how styrofoam and metal can keep in enough heat.
None of the water leaks from my bags, i actually double bagged it just incase. I am still waiting for my first eggs and I then I can tell you how it works.
I use the bwater in the baggie method and we just hatched out our first baby 10 days ago so I would say it works pretty well. I work at home so I am checking my temps pretty often and they stay pretty steady. I also have a spyder thermostat on it.
Thanks John, one more question. Right now I'm using an indoor/outdoor thermometer that's from Radioshack, but I don't know if it's accurate. Do you have a recommendation for an accurate thermometer? It's the 5A6.
