Ok... In person this little guy's head and top half of his back look green. The pictures don't really do him justice... but; does this look gren to anyone else?!! He's been like this for months now and we can't decide if he really shows green or not... (Remember... cameras don't always show everything for what they really are!) Thanks for helping!!!!!!!

Yup...looks like a nice olive green to me. It's like I was explaining about Dan's Blackie, only in this case it's yellow over grey. When you combine those colors, you get olive green. I was thinking if you could get whatever trait Dan's Blackie has to be duplicated on a yellow gecko, we'd end up with a line of completely olive geckos.

Get to work Dan!

It does have a olive green color to it, I like how it looks next to the tang. Do any of the parents have the olive green or any of the siblings?

LOL I had to drag out "the book" to take a look. Yep, I would say they are the same process/trait. The first emerald stripe looks like it's WAY off in terms of color...I bet if you saw that gecko in real life it would look VERY different. Christine's gecko has a very nice amount of olive green on it's body, and is fairly similar to the gecko on 181 - the main difference being the color and intensity of the tang between the stripes. (The blue spot gecko was a result of a hematoma - not totally sure that's the correct term, but it's basically a permanent bruise - which is pretty obvious in the photo)

So far, every time I've seen this green on a gecko, it's resulted from yellow migrating over the black bars as the gecko ages...speaking of which, Baby is looking kinda green right now, I'll post a pic on the bottom. In a lot of cases, the gecko grows out of it, but a few do make it to adulthood with the green intact. If you were to take away that yellow migration, you would have a lavender gecko instead (the lavender is really grey, but looks lavender due to it's close proximity to the orange and yellow). My best guess is that this would be a line breed trait.

My one true hope for a genetic olive comes from Dan's Blackie. Considering how DARK she is, compared to her BRIGHT offspring, I'm really crossing my fingers that it will pop back up as a recessive genetic trait. If we're lucky enough to see that, I have a very strong feeling it would be possible to create not only brown geckos like Blackie, but olive green geckos, and I bet it would be possible for an "Army camouflage" look (green and brown .... if you take Blackie's trait and put it on a gecko like Christine's, the areas that are currently tang would be brown). So, I'm really crossing my fingers for Dan and Blackie....but we've got wait for at least next season - provided Dan breeds a male offspring back to Blackie (Pleeaaaaassse! with a cherry on top!)

Here's that photo of Baby I was talking about. In his case, the yellow has just finished migrating (mostly), giving a slightly green look (not as strong as Christine's). I'm guessing with some more growing, he's going to lose the green look all together, leaving yellow or possibly tang.

Leopard Geckos really don't produce green pigment in their skin, it's a matter of yellow over lavender/grey, like Shanti said. Wouldn't it be cool though, if we could make a green (or even blue) leo?

This little female I have seems to have some of the same coloring. She's a lot more green in person.

Nope. Neither of the parents have any green. I know it will probably fade, but this gecko isnt the dark greens like I've seen...its more of a hilighter neon green... which I think is kinda neat! Hopefully he/she will keep the color... then maybe we'll start thinking about working more with this color. There are a few more that have this wierd coloration, so MAYBE we'll get lucky!

What do you guys think - would a patternless Tremper and something like this make a green gecko? I haven't really looked into it much, I guess I should! I know we'd get double hets but maybe one day... :)
