Gut Load Beetles?

This may be the dumbest question ever asked but ... I'm new so please forgive me!

I recently bought Zilla Gut Load for the first time (I've been gut loading my mealworms & superworms with oats, carrots, potatoes & lettuce for the first couple weeks) and when I pulled the bag out of the box, I became quite confused :main_huh: I read the box ingredients over and over again. I googled a million different ways. And of course, I also searched the forum many times & read many threads and posts...and still I can't find anyone else asking or answering this question. :main_no:

Are there supposed to be tons of LIVE little brown/red beetles inside the gut load bag??? Is it one of the ingredients or is it the carrier or what? If not, I really need to get my money back...

Thank you very much for any answer to my dumb question! Please don't be rude to me, I'd rather ask then make a mistake by "thinking I know" and harming my worms or geckos!

Hmmm those sound like mealworm beetles what meal worms turn into but what they are doing in your gut load bag is anyones guess, I would get my money back if possible

Take it back and get a refund. There should be no live insects in any gut load! Even if they are not harmful they are eating the product you purchased. I would just stick to what you where doing in the first place, with the oats and whatnot.

Thanks! I mean seriously, there are so many in the bag I thought that maybe they were supposed to be there...

I'll try posting pics:

If you can see, all those dark spots within the bag are the beetles!!! I tried taking video to show that most are still moving but some are dead however, I couldn't zoom in clearly enough. :( I think they're too small to be mealworm beetles?

Definitely not buying from that store again, or from that product line. I also can't return it since I live about 2 hrs away from the city and had to get it picked up for me. I think I'll stick to homemade or order online...

Might be a weevil of some sort. Too bad you are in Canada, I would take them off your hands for frog food. :D
