I must say I started today with gutloading haven´t made it before as I always got the food and feed it the same week but as I started to buy more at once I thought I will have to feed as it is better and not that cruel for the feeders.
I used normal apple or carrot for them.

BTW: If that´s not good plz tell me someone^^

Hum...
What about the pre-packaged stuff? Is that any better or worse, or are you making your own because it is cheaper (which I can certainly understand)?

Let´s say If read somewere to take carrot and added apple to it.
That´s cause I dunno of any packed matirial or gutload and I had apples and carrots at home^^. I dunno if it is the best but it´s betters than feeding nothing I think.
For proffesional gutload food other have to say something(I´m not sure if we have something like that in Germany^^)

I blend some oatmeal, cornmeal and TOTAL corn flakes in a blender. I use apples or carrots as a water source.

I've been buying oat and wheat bran in bulk bins at the grocery store (really cheap :main_thumbsup: ) and adding a little cricket gutload and powdered vitamins to it. I use carrots and potatoes as a water source.

sry for hijacking with one of mine question.
What do you use for crickets or locust?
And as I read that with the vitamins, I thought on doing something like this for crickets and locust:
taking an apple making it small so that you have wet sites which you powder with vitamins. The feeders eat it and they have the vitamins inside. Would that be a good way to give vitamins to the Geckos without dredge the feeders?

For crickets and locusts, I think the same gutload can be used as for mealworms. You can do the apple thing, with the vitamins. I've never done that, but I think it will work. :)

We were buying the gutload but it's pretty expensive, we'de rather just make our own. I like the cereal idea! lol.

Cody's Progutload is excellent for all feeder insects; from mealworms to roaches. I've used it for over a year and noticed a huge difference in the size and color of my animals. It's loaded with everything a feeder needs to pass on to your animals.

I add some vionate to it and white, red, or even sweet potatoes, when doing mealworms. I used to use apples, carrots, orange slices, etc, but they were so moist that the they would stick to the gutload powder and making a mud sludge that stuck to the worms. I was constantly having to sift them to get nice clean worms that weren't covered in goo.. These veggies and fruits also rot rather quickly as well, and bring on flies and an odor. I've also found that the worms love potatoes more than anything else.. Thats just my observation though..

Crickets - simply a small dish of water gel, and a dish of pro gutload

Well, according to my vet and Dr. Daniel Wentz from Rep-Cal, there is no way to actually "gut-load" a mealworm... or any larvae for that matter. Any insect in it's larval form does not 'load' with nutrients because it's sole purpose in life is to eat and stay alive in order to pupate. The best you can do is to just keep them fed.

Personally, I use the same thing for my cricket and roach gut-load as I do for my mealworm bedding/food: 9-grain cereal from the bulk food bins at the store, mixed with 10% Vionate.

Matt and I are going to try some of matt's gut load and we will make some of our own too! I want to do some tests and stuff on the different gutload...I am sort of what you may call...a geek? lol.

Vionate is a calcium powder sold for animals right? I am guessing I can get it pretty much any place? Maybe at the feed stores I so frequent with my mom? lol (We have horses too).

Thanks all for the recipes! We got a great price on matt's gutload for a pound. The stuff we were buying was 100grams for about 6 bucks! That's rediculous, especially now that our breeding stock is increasing and we will be breeding once we get our female BB from mike. :D
