gutload question?

oarnges are getting expensive buying them at the store for part of the gutload for the crix and mealies, my question is, we have a cumquad (kind of like a teeny grapefruit/oarnge cross) tree right outside our house, would it be okay to use them instead of buying the oarnges? the tree isnt sprayed with anything and i just thought it might be some good quality free gutload.

I'm not sure about using those, but I use carrots they are pretty cheap when you buy a big bag of them

Just giving them a fruit or a vegetable probably isn't giving them enough nutrients. It would be much cheaper and probably healthier for them if you bought the gut load made for the crickets and mealies. The Flukers gut load has been working great for me and it lasts a long time.

Are you using any sorta bedding? Like wheatbran?

yeah, i use wheat bran, a slice of potato, and an oarnge slice. thats what i have read works best as the gutload. i was just thinking mabe i can swap the oarnge out with the cumquad so that would be one less item on the grocery list, (since nobody in my household eats oarnges, just one goes bad after i slice it up.)

That's funny I always spelled it "KumQuat". Haha, I can't spell wierd exotic names and whatever. lol... eh, anyway, *Cumquads* are a great source of vitamins and minerals when they come from rich soils. My Mom (<-- doctor/nutritionist) always said they were good for you, and would make me eat them because we could never eat all of the ones that our tree produced. I'm sure that they'd make a great gutload! They're great for humans too apparently... if you can stomache them :)

Mango and Persimons

Sounds like you're doing it right Rob.
I have also used Mango and Persimon slices instead of Oranges.
The size of Mealworms increased over a one week period to super-size! The Geckos didn't complain.
