Hey everyone,

Today i came back from the DIY store and was about to sit down at my desk with a cold drink when something caught my eye.

I very gently tried to pick it up or usher it on to my hand but it retreated.

I tried again to pick it up and it made a dash and jumped on to my desk(wow these animals can sure jump) then it ran in to my bonsai box where it posed for the camera lol.

After taking a couple of photos i ushered it in to my hand and took it out to the garden and released it.

As you can see from these pics this gecko differs from the common house gecko. The common gecko is a pail grey with no patterns and has a pale white belly and plain black eyes. This gecko has stripes and patterning and even its eyes have white dots.

Just thought id share this with you all. -

Hey, it is infect a common house gecko as i suspected but there are a couple of variations among the species. Outside on my wall you can see many and some have gotten used to being in close proximity to humans and will allow you a closer look whilst others will run for the nearest crack or hole in the brickwork.

There are 2-3 variations that i can see. Some like i mentioned are a very pale grey with no patterning and have pure black eyes. Then there is this type that i have photographed and there is another that has white bands on its tail. Either it is some kind of natural morph(I seriously doubt it) or their color and pattering changes with age(most likely). Either way it was a curios funny little guy (it was male)

Just thought i would mention that there are 2 types of common house gecko, the Native Australian one and the Asian one which was introduced during the 60's unknowingly bought here in shipping containers if i remember correctly.

Of the two the Asian is much more vocal and you will often hear quite a loud Clicking Chuk Chuk Chuk Chuk( I actualy like the sounds they make lol). Although i have heard it during the day its most commonly heard at night when the Moths arrive and land on the fly screened windows.
Im fairly certain the one i photographed is the native form due patterning and is allot less vocal.
On the negative side these common house geckos more specifically the asian form have been known to carry mites. They also eat native skinks and even their own.

But they are still cute:p

Thanks for the comments everyone:) yeah, he did seem to like being in with the bonsai, took me a while to usher him on to my hand (i could have just picked him up but him being so small it would have hurt him so i didn't tempt it and just let him come to me kind of thing.

He stayed on your hand long enough for you to find a place to
turn him loose?
You must have a very gentle touch :main_yes:

Yeah, He was surprisingly calm. Usually they run for cover at the mere sight of us humans but he just stayed on my hand.

Thanks for the comment. I may do a field/house herping thread as this one did pretty well.
