Got my first gecko yesterday, he ate 3 superworms today, which I used tongs and is exploring his home like crazy! Do I really need to wait a week to start handling him? When I changed his water this morning he doesn't seem to mind me being there. I should mention that he's an adult and he was quite tame when I handled him at the reptile show.

Well that is great to hear that he is exploring and not hiding:) I would still give him another week or two to settle in before handling.

Ok but it's so hard to resist! He's so awesome! I love they way he walks!

Also, he just pooped. I smelled something funny and saw it behind his hide. The smell is alot different then my bearded dragons. lol

Yes you should wait before handling, but if he acts friendly to your hand, a lil pet might be appreciated :) Also, 3 superworms is a lot for one feeding, 2 is plenty, if you have large supers. Congrats on your new boy :)

Oh ok. I'll make sure to only feed him 2 from now on. Here's a pic of him. I named him juice.

He's such a pretty gecko! Nice SHTCT! Sounds like he's doing great!

I know it can be extremely tempting to handle him, but please, for his own good, give him time to adjust to his new home. All the good progress he sounds like he's making with adjusting could be undone if he gets too stressed with handling. I'd wait another week before handling him, and once he does settle in, you'll have lots of time to handle him and enjoy him. Leave him be for now.

Congratulations!

Sounds and looks like you have a winner. None of the geckos I first bought ate the same day I purchased them. Good luck with your new experience and enjoy a truly unique, fun and loving reptile.

I think geckos are wonderful and they have always been great companions to me.

Take care.
