Hatchling IDs

Hi all:
I would like to know how some of the larger gecko breeders are identifying their offspring so that they do not breed back into the blood line. I have alot of offspring this year and so far I have everything in order, but I think next year is gonna be kinda tricky. I sure could use some advice from those who know the ins and outs. Thanks.

Peter, I use the group number and hatch dates as ID's. For example, group 5 is my Mack snow group, so a baby from that father would be 05-60306 with the extension of A or B to ID the clutchmate. I cannot always tell which mother the eggs came from, though.

I ID my geckos in the following way:
FG06-050 would be a hatchling where FG is Frank's Geckos (breeder), 06 is the year and -050 would indicate the number of the hatchling. The first hatchling of each year would be -001. Each hatchling has an index card on file which identifies the length of incubation in days, the hatch date, the parents (by name), the sex, the sell date and price, as well as who it was sold to (or at what show). I also use different color markers and symbols to mark each clutch of eggs when they are put in the incubator (with the date they were laid) so I can estimate when they will hatch and know which female laid them. All of these things help me to keep my records accurate and allow me to answer questions that someone may have about any of the hatchlings I produced. It may not be the best system, but it works for me for now. I am not sure I whether or not I will change to a "morph based" naming system in the future, but many others use some form of it.

Most of my reptiles (the ones I breed) have the same type of ID number since I use Excel to keep track of them. Each species has a "code" that I assigned, so 43-02-089 is a corn snake (43) from 2002 (02) and it's the 89th animal for that year in that species.
