Hatchling records

I remember reading a thread a while back on how people identified their hatchlings as far as id numbers and things like that but I can't find it. Any links to the thread or if you can just tell me how you identify them that would be great.

I do mine by the parents ID. For example...

MSHBLPHBXMSHBLPHB01 would be the first Mack Snow het Blizzard possible het Bell x Mack Snow het Blizzard possible het Bell I hatch. I use Microsoft Excel to chart them in a spreadsheet. The first column being ID, second is hatch date, and third is weight. I also color code the IDs. I use black for normal, pink for Albino and gray for Mack Snow. Mack Snows are bolded as well. Hmmm what will I use for Blizzards???

That's how I do mine right now. But then I thought next year, what if I wanted to breed one with that id number to another one? Then it would get extremely long wouldn't it?

I give holdbacks their own ID... So that ought to work for you too!

EDIT: If MSHBLPHBXMSHBLPHB01 was a holdback say... Super Snow 66% het Blizzard it'd be SSPHBL01 and if I knew the sex it's added too... Like SSPHBLM01 or SSPHBLF01...

Example of mine are...

WCS 3.21 3A = WCS(mom's name) 3.21 (date) 3A (clutch # and A is the first one to hatch)

Clutchmate is WCS 3.22 3B.

I also don't start the next year with #1 for clutch I start off where she left off so I can keep track of the number of clutches each female has laid for me.

Thanks Mike and Felicia for your input, and thank you Kyle for finding that thread. Hopefully I'll be able to come up with something now.

Moral of this thread, just come up with something that makes sence to you:) If your using a rack my best advice to you would be to just label the containers, I use Id holders with velcro. I just came up with a labeling system,in my case pretty much just abbreviations, and then added a number to the end. If you realy care how I came up with mine I will share it though. I split my IDs into parts, first being my name (Repti-R-Us) RRS, second being male or female(m or f) third being the type, and fourth being the # of that type of gecko it is, heres an example for one of my co dom females RRS-F-MS-003. I make my male, female, and hatchling tags all look different. hope it helps

I wrote the "names" of the parents on the incubation containers and have the info behind each egg written down. Eventually Ill have to look into a system myself though...

We often use codes for our own records but we name them by sex. We use a camera Loupe to tell sex as early as possible and generally our temp sexing is on target. Occasionally natures finds a way to get around us.
