I have a maybe 6 month old leopard gecko, I THINK. im not exactly sure how old it was when i got it, but thats my best guess. He/She (not big enough to tell yet) is untame, but doesnt seem to be bothered by me to much, I keep him in my bedroom, and im in there alot, so hes used to me around and i talk to him sometimes :main_rolleyes: haha. anyway, the 2 times I actually have held him, hes jump around and landed on the bed/floor (not to worry, i held him close to the ground just in case!:main_yes:) anyway, any tips on taming my little buddy?

Also, he wont eat any type of worms. its actually starting to scare me. ive tied wax worms, miel worms, mega worms, EVERYTHING, but he wont eat any. im 100% positive of this. he does eat crickets which i try to feed him as much as possible ans this food i bought that is something like flies....i do sprinkle all his food with calcium. he aslo had a pure calcium dish :)

Any other tips for a new-ish gecko owner is great! thank you all so much.

the best way for your leo to get to know you, and know that you are not a threat is to have contact with him/her as often as possiable. try holding it. for a short period each day. and it will eventually get used to you. and will likely even be willing to crawl out onto your hand, all on it's own.

place you hand at the bottom of the tank as well, he will probably avoid it. walk around, come up and smell you, eventually walk over, and then onto your hand.. this has been my experience anyway.

and as far as the worm thing goes. as long as he is eating crix normally and pooing normally there shouldn't be anything to worry about. the worms may not be attracting enough of his attention. or may be to big/small.

the calcium is good. are you using any other supplements? such as vitamins/mineral supplement?

The longer you do not hold the gecko the more scared and jumpy it will be when you do. I suggest, every day, putting your arm in the tank and making the gecko get used to you being around. Eventually, when it is not acting as scared, pick it up , and sit down on a couch, bed, etc with it, and allow it to crawl all over you. Eventually, he will be completely calm, and allow you to pick him up whenever you wish :)

As far as worms, Bex is right. I have a juvenile that will not touch mealworms. She likes waxies (it IS weird for a gecko to pass those up lol...mine go NUTS for them). Her main diet is roaches and crickets (roach colony is not quite big enough yet), but I am confident that when she gets older she'll try a worm or two :) Just be glad he is eating! You sound like you are doing everything right.

I agree with everyone else. The more your geckos gets accustomed to you, the better. The longer you go without trying to handle it, the harder it will be in the long run.

One of the things I do to calm down a skiddish gecko is to put them on my chest with my hands cupped loosely over them like a cave, and talk to them in a soothing voice. Put your hand in the enclosure, palm up on the floor, several times a day until the gecko gets used to it. Once the gecko is calm, you can gently scoop them up and put your other hand over them to make a cave. Eventually, you will e able to handle your gecko without it freaking out.

Patience is the key!

I'd still keep a small dish of mealies in the cage. Only 5 at a time so you'll know if he eats one. Some of my guys would only eat them if dropped in front of them. But eventually they all learned to eat out of the dish too. You could also try feeding a cricket & then dropping a mealie in...bait & switch. Who knows he may go for it. Good luck with the patience part.

Just stroke its back for like 5 mins every couple hours I've been doing that for 3 days and I've only had my gecko for about 3 days, and he's already really chill and even starting to climb on my hand :)
