k how do i get my AFT to eat on his own, he only eats if i hand feed him, but i been trying to encorage him to hunt for himself and he wont, i've tried all i can think of: seperate feeding tank, dropping them in his enclosure, mealie dish, pulling the legs off the crix to slow them down for him, i've tried everything....im going to visit PA for a little while next month, and i need him to hunt for himself b/c nobody is willing to hand feed him while i am gone.

It may sound mean but if its the only way, dont feed him. Just put the food in every day for an amount of time(or mealies in a dish or crickets with no hopper legs in a dish) and dont feed him them. If your aft gets hungry he will HAVE to hunt them on his own. If he doesnt then well I guess...either take himwith you some how or dont go?

i havent tried the not feeding him thing. i will give it a shot, i do have a mealie dish for him. i'll have to give it a try. i been feeding him a variety of giant mealies, supers and crix and he eats them well for me. i'll try the crix and supers first, because he eats them the most, he loves them.

Good, and if you cant try it with something treatish, and mix in a bit of normal things. Like put a pinkie in(even if its a male) or some waxworms. Yknow, gecko m&m's.

i agree. depending on how often you feed him, a week without food should be more than enough to entice him to hunt.

I havent been on in a while, however i did get him to hunt on his own. he has been eating mealies out of his dish nightly which is great. all it took was a pinky to get him started, lol.
