Hi all

I've got a 60x40x40cm long terra (that's about 24x16x16 inch I think)
What kind of heat mat would i need to get the terra to a nice 33°C or 92°f?

Ultraherm Heats pads 6x23 from thebeanfarm.com/ or if you don't want to buy it from the internet you can buy it from the pet store. Possibly any heat pad that will cover 1/2 to 2/3 of the tank. But get a thermostat with it because most all heat pads can exceed 100 degrees and a thermostat will control that temperature. Not a RHEOSTAT thats just a dimmer and its a pain in the butt to keep highing and lowering it.

Yea pretty much, but when I first got my leopard gecko a year ago I stumbled apon a heatmat. I didn't know its brand but it had a bunch of colorful sketch reptiles in 1 tank. I used it and didn't like it much because it couldn't even exceed 80 degrees. So that one is different :D

Heat Mats Temp

A Heat Mat does not "Heat" the tank.

They are designed to heat the bottom of the tank and to add 15 to 20 degrees to the outside air-temp.

Since the bottom of the tank is being heated, the air temp inside the tank will be cooler than the surface temp of the substrate. It is the surface temp of the substrate that should be 88 to 92 degrees.

The heat mat should cover 1/3 to 1/2 of the bottom of the tank.:main_thumbsup:

So ...

1) What is your outside temp.

2) What is the surface temp of the substrate.

3) What country are you in?

Have Fun.:D

You need a digital thermometer w/ prob AND a thermostate to
control the UTH.
Thermostates also have a prob. You need to fix it to the top of
your substrate, plug your UTH into the thermostat, and set it
for about 92F.

I posted this same question on a Belgian forum and didn't get too much response, thanks for the detailed info.
I've been looking around and I'm thinking of getting the Lucky Reptile ThermoControl Pro 2. Does anyone have any experience with this device?
Do I need an additional thermometer next to this thermostat?
By the way, UTH does mean Under Tank Heater, right?

By the way

Ultraherm Heat pads are made in Scotland.

So depending on what country you are in you should be able to get them fairly easily.

Come on back to the Geckoforum anytime and there are any number of people who will be willing to give you some advice.

And I assume that you are somewhere Across-the-Pond.

Have a Great Day.:main_thumbsup:
