Heat Pad Placement in 40 Gallon

I'm going to be purchasing a 40 gallon long to house my future leopard gecko (with the intention of getting more in the future) and was wondering where the best place to place the heating pad would be. I was thinking in the middle, as that would create two heat gradients, allowing for two cold spots for animals to get away from each other, and allowing for a divider to be placed without an additional heating pad. Any thoughts? A 40 long is 48" in length.

Usually, you would place the heat pad on one end, but if you are going to divide the 40 gallon into two cages, then yes, place in the middle so that the two sections can share the same heat pad. That's a good idea!

I'm not sure I'm going to be dividing the 40, but it would be a nice option to have. I wouldn't mind either breeding my gecko or getting a couple more geckos in the future (as I gain experience), so being able to divide would be nice for raising younger geckos to adult size.

In anything bigger than a 30 gallon the middle or two smaller heat pads at either end sound like a good idea to me. This way your gecko can meet all it's needs without traveling several feet across a tank which makes some of them nervous.
