My heat pad starts heating within one minute after plugged in to a outlet. At least I can feel the heat with my hand. I guess you have a faulty one if it does not provide heat at all after 4 hours.

i feel very little heat coming off of it, its barely warmer than room temp. the brand is "exo terra, heat wave" terrarium substrate heater. its self adheasive i removed the paper backing, and stuck it on however on the other side it has a thin clear film, kind of like what is over a digital screens when you buy, which i did not remove (nothing in the directions said to.) should i remove that and see if it starts working?

well if you got an 8 watt it will not get very hot and depending on the size tank/tub and thickness of the tank/tub you may need a larger wattage. Those come in 8, 16, 24 and need to be based on tank size etc. And need a thermostat to make sure they do not get too hot for larger wattage units.

Ive never stuck one on, I just tape them with masking tape, you can try some alcohol, that may help it come unstuck. You can also get a human heating pad pretty cheap, either way they have to be hooked to a thermostat or dimmer.

i have a human heating pad from when i had my compression fracture. its got four settings to it, i should use it and see what setting works best and just use that

I have one on my 40 gallon tank, it gets to about 93 one #2 but I have it hooked to a thermostat to keep it to 90. Just make sure to set it so they don't get too hot, without a thermostat you could get thermal burns and too hot of temps.

Those 8 watt Exo Terra Heat Waves will heat the botom of a 10 gal tank or a Sterilite tub pretty nicely. For a 20 gal tank you might want the next size up, with a thermostat. It does sound like you've got a faulty one.

BTW, I've got 2 of those Heat Wave UTHs, and I removed the thin plastic backing on both sides.

i been using a human heating pad, with great results. the basking side is a perfect 90. and the cool side is a perfect 77. i think i'll just keep that on for a while. he seems happier than a pig in sh........lol still wont eat, but i;ll gieve it a few more days before i start worrying. with as active as he has been, im sure he will eat very soon.
