Heat question?

Hey guys, a few of you know I have posted about heat and humidity already. So here is an update and another question. I got myself a thermostat and a digital thermometer, I also got the next size up for the UTH. Now at first I wasn't sure if the thermostat was working right because it said in its directions not to put it directly over the heat source. So I had it set to 93 and it was at about 80.... But I read in another forum while searching for problems with the thermostat I am using and it said to put it directly on the glass over the UTH. So that is what I am doing and it is reading a comfortable 91 degrees. So do I got this right? Finally?

Yes. Both probes (one from the thermostat and one from the thermometer) should be placed on the floor of the tank above the UTH. I would recommend putting the thermometer probe on top of the substrate so you can make sure that is warm enough too. I think you are using repti carpet if I remember correctly, so there may be a little difference between the temp of the glass and the surface of the carpet.

Yeah I'm using repti carpet, I have both probes under it on the glass, I'll toss the thermometers probe above it and see what it's reading. Thanks.

No problem. There might not be a difference in temp but just to be sure... ya know

Yeah I know there really wouldn't be.. I'm only noticing about .5 to 1 full degree difference, so I think it's finally all good :)

Totally answered one of my questions I had been meaning to ask! Thank you :)
On the subject of reptile carpet,do you suggest it? I've heard people say that it gets little toes stuck in them. I was going to use paper towels for a bit until I could find something different.

We had repticarpet for a while but our gecko kept getting his teeth caught when he lunged for crickets. It was pretty distressing. We switched to paper towels and have not looked back. Repticarpet is evil, at least it was for our leo.

Personally I use natural slate tile with hermit crab sand underneath it. Conducts and retains heat REALLY well and I get a perfect temp gradient with just my UTH.. Not to mention Ozy LOVES it. :D

I also use slate tile and with Ozy's recommendation I put the sand underneath and I have no problems with my temps now and it looks really nice and is super easy to clean!
