Heat Tape on Rack System

So we currently have a 16/32 qt rack system with 7 shelves and we needed more room for the baby hatchlings, so off to Home Depot I went and tada, We now have a replica rack system, but maybe not as pretty. My Question is seeing as how I don't have a tool to make an inlay in the wood for the heat tape, I have seen people just lay the heat tape flat and then use HVAC tape to hold it in place. I just wanted to make sure there isn't any problem with Direct heat tape to plastic container contact. Worth asking before I burn down the house!

lots of people do that, it's fine on a thermostat.

looks nice! yea thats what i do and have no problem, as stated above though, a thermostat is mandatory.
