heat tape q

Ok I see everyone puts the probe for there thermostat on the heat tape on there r ack why not in the bin because that well give you the actuel temp because the heat has to go through all the plastic and stuff so should i put it on the heat tape or in the bin or does it make a difference?

I put it on the heat tape because heat tape tends to get hot. I figured out that in my rack, the temps I set the heat tape at, are 7-8 degrees warmer then the temp of the warm side. So if I set the thermostat at 97, the basking spot will be 89-90 degrees.
