The 3 inch comes in 10 watt and 6 watt. I have both and personally I like the 6 watt just because it doesn't get as hot as the 10 watt. It is all personal preference because they both work just fine.
i was just wondering because i have multiple units hooked up to a 150 watt thermostat and realized they werent as hot as expected, i thought maybe i was overloading the thermostat.
Just to be safe say the 3 inch is 10 watt. Also be careful with thermostats like the one you have. If you think you are overloading the thermostat you probably aren't because you would definately know. Our first thermostat we bought from petco... I think it was a zoo-med (the one with a little dial knob). Well we overloaded it not even thinking and it actually melted. So be careful. I know they are a little pricey but going with a Johnson, Ranco, or something similar will always be the best bet. I think they have a 1500 watt limit. Hope this helped a little.
haha well this ones far from melting or even being warm so I guess I'm not, thanks a lot. The heat tape I'm using is old so that is more than likely the problem. I'm trying to acheive a 90 degree temp and all the way up some of the hot spots are just at 88 and the rest are 92 so we cant get that 90 that we desired in all the cages but at least some arent 102 and other 72, but we've acctually just ordered two Herp Power Thermostat With Built-In Nightdrop. I thought the automatic night drop would be an amazing feature. IF it works properly but at 120.00 I hope it does. If not I'll have to continue doing it the ole' manual way.
Please let us know how the Herp Power Themostat with the built-in Nightdrop works for you. We've been looking at one and I like the idea of the Nightdrop.
