Hi! I will be getting a couple leopard geckos pretty soon! I'm so excited! I live in Utah and it gets REALLY cold here how should I heat my tank I know to put the under tank heater but what else?
The heat pad is all you're going to need. I live in New Hampshire and it gets really cold here in the winter and I have never needed any other heat source for my Leo's. I recommend getting a thermostat for the heat pad though because depending on what you use for substrate (paper towels, repticarpet, or slate tiles are what I have used) a heat pad without some way to regulate the temp can get WAAAAAY too hot. I've seen the reach 112 degrees when I used paper towels for substrate without a thermostat. Now that I use slate tiles it's not as extreme maxing out at about 101 but is still too hot so I use thermostats. I use a zoo med dial thermostat for my Leo's and it works pretty well for me and was about the same price as the heat pad.
