Hi

So i noticed my sensors had moved and my temp was reading between 31 and sometimes going up to 36 i have adjusted the two probes on he warm side and weighted them down a bit with a hide she never uses unless she needs a poo :main_laugh:

The mat now comes on at 31 degrees and goes off when it reaches 35. will this be ok or is it still too hot . at 31 the floor doesn't feel warm to touch really

I have the sensors laying on top of the carpet the thermostat is a komodo 100w on /off thermostat and the heat mat is made by micro climate international

36 C is a tad hot in my opinion. That is a huge variance for a thermostat, so I'm thinking something is off. One problem I have had with thermostats in the past is that the probe will stay slightly elevated off the actual ground. Then, it's measuring the temperature of the air right above the ground, which can vary more than the ground itself. You said you weighed the probe down with a hide. When I have done this in the past, the probe no longer touches the floor. What I do is use a small piece of aluminum tape and tape the probe directly to the ground over the heat pad. Aluminum tape works the best because its adhesive is not affected by the heat (unlike duct tape that will peel off when heated). If I'm using a digital thermometer also, than I tape the probe for this one as well.

Thanks I will try the tape tomorrow
I seem to be having one worry after another its all so new and I cant get it to maintain a steady temperature. How should 32 feel on the hand because it doesn't feel that warm to me when it drops below that.

It should still feel warm but not hot. Remember our body temperature is higher than the temps we keep our geckos at.

The best way to attach the thermostat prob is directly to the heat pad itself and adjust acording. ..there is no way for the prob to be moved or water say spilt on it to make the tstat run hotter than needed. Its also way more accurate

You could do it that way too, but I've actually found that method to be less accurate than taping the probe directly to the floor of the container especially if you're using something like linoleum (OP didn't mention what they were using). I used to do it that way but had too many problems with it, so changed. But that's just me.
